Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB)-Clinical Trials
Each board is comprised of researchers who periodically review data from blinded, placebo-controlled trials. The researchers should be independent of the trials they're monitoring. A DSMB board has the authority to stop a trial if the toxicities are found or if the treatment is proved beneficial. These boards are also known as Independent Data-Monitoring Committee.

Data Lock
Every clinical trial has a beginning a middle and an end. Part of the end process is the submission of certain patient data regarding the safety and effectiveness of the drug during the clinical trial. At a predetermined time and date,( in accordance with the trial protocol)  the sponsor agrees they will not submit anymore patient data to support their NDA  (New Drug Application). This date and time is called Data Lock. See also Clinical Trials.

Data Encryption Standard (DES)
A widely used method of data encryption using a private key that the U.S. government judged so difficult to break that it was restricted for export to other countries. Each message uses one of 72 quadrillion or more possible encryption keys that are chosen at random. The sender and receiver must both know and use the same private key. DES applies a 56-bit key to each 64-bit block of data.
